Instructions for Sewing Your Sash
Ironing on the Interfacing
1 - 10” x 12” purple flap
2 - 11” x 12” purple sides
1 - 3 x 32” purple bottom
1 - 10” x 12” fusible fleece flap
2 - 11” x 12” fusible fleece sides
1 - 3 x 32” fusible fleece bottom
Heat your iron to the cotton setting
Place fusible fleece textured side up on a towel
Line up the purple pieces on top of the corresponding fusible fleece
Iron the fusible fleece to the purple pieces using light to medium pressure starting from the center working out to the edges for 30 - 60 seconds (*NOTE* Keep your iron moving making sure not to let the iron sit in one place too long)
Check that the fabric is completely fused to the fleece before moving on
Making the Outside of your Bag
1 - 10” x 12” purple flap
2 - 11” x 12” purple sides
1 - 3 x 32” purple bottom
After ironing on the fusible fleece to your purple fabric you can begin assembling the outside of your bag
*Note* Use ⅜" seam allowance, if not sure on measurement follow edge of material along side of foot holding your fabric down
Pin, right sides together, the flap piece to one of the side pieces and stitch in place to form the back of your bag
Pin, right sides together, the bottom piece all the way around the outside edge of your side piece and then stitch it in place
Now grab your back piece, the side with the flap sewn to it, and pin it in place the same way and stitch all the way around again.
Adding Pockets to your Bag
1 - 11” x 12” grey side
1 - pocket fabric piece 5" x 16"
*Note* Use ⅜" seam allowance, if not sure on measurement follow edge of material along side of foot holding your fabric down
Cut a piece of fabric to be about 5″ x 16.” Fold it in half with right sides together and stitch all the way around, leaving a small opening of about an 1”
Turn it right side out and press it flat
Get your piece of grey side fabric and position this pocket where you want it and pin it in place (*Note* place it just a few inches up from the bottom of the side panel for optimal placement)
Sew all the way around the 2 sides and the bottom of the pocket fabric leaving the top open
If you want to create some compartments just sew vertical lines down the pocket with the spacing you want
Making the Lining of your Bag
1 - 10” x 12” grey flap
2 - 11” x 12” grey sides
1 - 3 x 32” grey bottom
After adding your pocket(s) you can begin assembling the inside of your bag
*Note* Use ⅜" seam allowance, if not sure on measurement follow edge of material along side of foot holding your fabric down
Pin, right sides together, the flap piece to the side piece that has your pocket and stitch in place to form the back of your bag
Pin, right sides together, the bottom piece all the way around the outside edge of your side piece and then stitch it in place
Now grab your back piece, the side with the flap sewn to it, and pin it in place the same way and stitch all the way around again.
Put the Lining into your Bag
1 - Grey Lining Assembled
1 - Purple Outside Assembled
1 - 50” Black Strap (1.5" Cotton Belting)
Turn the grey RIGHT SIDE OUT and the purple part INSIDE OUT
Place the grey lining inside the purple outside lining up the flaps
Insert the strap so that it is between the two layers and sticks out the end about ½” (be careful that it’s not twisted inside the bag)
Pin the strap in and around the flap and opening
*Note* Use ⅜" seam allowance, if not sure on measurement follow edge of material along side of foot holding your fabric down
Now, starting at the top of the flap sewing around the flap, across the front of the bag and back up the other side of the flap leaving a small opening (about 2-3”) at the top
Now turn everything right side out and stuff the lining down into the bag
Finishing Touches for your Bag

Press it all nice and flat.
*Note* Use ⅜" seam allowance, if not sure on measurement follow edge of material along side of foot holding your fabric down
Topstitch along the flap and the front of the bag to keep everything nice and aligned
Center the troop patch on the front of your flap, 3” up from the bottom of the flap
Pin the patch in place
Sew around the entire edge of the patch to hold it in place
Iron On Patch Instructions
Heat your iron as hot as it goes.
Iron your sash for about 20 seconds in the place you plan to put your patch to heat up the fabric.
Place your patch on the warm fabric and make sure you like the placement.
Place iron on the patch and count to 5-10, then remove the iron.
Place the iron again on the patch and count to 5-10, then remove the iron.
Iron the patch from the back for about 20 seconds by moving the iron around while you heat the back.
Let cool and check that all the edges are firmly adhered to your sash. If it does not seem secure repeat steps 4-6.
